Great Country Bake Off
Given the challenge to bake a bread inspired by any country in the world, teams of bakers from Curlews planned and baked a series of breads. The loaves were based on a standard quick (non-yeast) recipe and enhanced by flavours chosen by the teams.
In the afternoon, after the breads had been baked in the school ovens by the canteen staff, a number of judges from Puffins and Swallows came to score each bake on looks and taste.
The winning design was the Taste of America – a banana and chocolate chip flavoured bread. However, competition was very close between the other entries including an Italian inspired mozzarella and sun-dried tomato plaited loaf, a Brazilian ‘Toucan’ loaf, a superbly designed American burger, Australian fruit loaf and two garlic and cheese loaves.
After the judges had made their decision, members of Curlews were able to taste their designs and those of others in the class and all agreed their loaves were very tasty indeed.
