Science Classification Lesson 2: Habitat Survey

In the previous session we looked at how all living things are classified under different kingdoms – animal, plant, fungi, protoctista and prokaryote.

Watch this video to find out about how all living things now have their own Latin name, using a classification system invented by Carl Linnaeus.

Activity

Choose an area of land close to your home – this could be a garden, or area of a local park – just stay safe while you are doing this task.

You are going to explore the range of living organisms found in that location. You can record these by either taking photographs, making a video diary, sketching or simply counting the organisms present. Remember you are looking for animals, plants, fungi etc.

After doing this, choose another environment and see what the similarities and differences between the two environments is. Present this in as interesting way as you can think about.
