Daily News

I am looking forward to seeing you later for our Teams meeting (at either 9:30, 10:30 or 11:30 – check to see which group you are in). All the sign up details have been sent to your parent’s message section on ClassDojo.

Make sure you have some paper and a pen with you.

After James’ mum let me know about this project, we were due to have a live lesson this term to find out all about Spaceport Cornwall – the UK’s first horizontal launch spaceport which will hopefully be operational by 2021. Some of you may even end up working there or even being a passenger into space from there!

Anyway, because we are not in school at the moment, the ‘Inspirational Space Broadcast’ has been postponed for a while. However, this morning at 11:30am – 12:00 (apologies to Group 3 for the clash, but you can watch this again on catch-up) there will be a Spaceport Cornwall Facebook Live event (click here). This is aimed at primary school age students and will include a 15 minute presentation, a short quiz and a live Q & A session. It will be quite different to the Inspiration Space Broadcast, so you can take part in both.

During the broadcast, you will be set a challenge:

Create a poster that highlights the benefits of Spaceport Cornwall and the wider space sector to Cornwall and to the general population (including you).

Create your poster, take a photo and submit to posters@spaceportcornwall.com

In your email please include your name, age and school

Entries must be received by 5pm on the 28th of February.

Mr Simmons’ Joke of the Day

Maths

A bit of a break from percentages today as we try this Beat the Nation challenge. You will recognise the questions from the good old days of DMQs. In this video, you will need to answer the questions themselves and then the other questions asked (such as which did you think most people would have got wrong and what mistakes do you predict other people may have made). Then take the video off pause and see if you were right!

Let me know how you got on with the challenge by posting your solutions to your portfolio.

English

In today’s session I would like you to finish the activity you started in yesterday’s session.

Make sure that you have all the key story points in the poem covered within your storyboard.

Please send in your completed storyboard to ClassDojo.

If you finish ahead of time, you can try and re-read the poem yourself, thinking about the expression you would use in your voice.

Reading

I would like you to read for at least 30 minutes each day. You can get more ideas and suggestions of reading material from the Reading@Home section above.

Science

This weekend sees the RSPB’s annual Bird Watch Survey. Your help is requested.

The full details on how to take part can be found on this page, which has the links to the documents you will need to take part:

https://www.rspb.org.uk/get-involved/activities/birdwatch/everything-you-need-to-know-about-big-garden-birdwatch/

This guide has most of the information you will need.

We were planning to carry this out at school this year. Instead we will be able to submit up to 28 as many results as you will all be able to submit your own survey results!

Family Challenge

Have a go at this one. I warn you – this one is pretty tricky, but it is possible to complete:
