Daily News

Hopefully you have all seen the ClassDojo Whole School story I posted yesterday about the whole school photography competition we are running. Basically, send me one picture in your portfolio (label the picture ‘Competition Entry’) on the theme Lockdown 2021: What it looks like for me. I will select 2 Curlews winners who will then compete against the winners from the rest of the school. You have a little while to take part with a submission deadline of Friday 5th February.

Mr Simmons’ Joke of the Day

Maths

In today’s video, after a starting question for you to pause and try, I demonstrate how you can use the knowledge from yesterday to order a mixture of fractions, decimals and percentages.

After watching this, try to answer these questions:

And submit your answers to your Dojo Portfolio.

English

As we approach the end of The Highwayman, tune into today’s dramatic episode:

As your writing task, I would like you to write a letter as if Bess was sending it to The Highwayman. I would like to to include detail from the poem as well as including details on the strong emotions she would have been feeling.

Reading

I would like you to read for at least 30 minutes each day. You can get more ideas and suggestions of reading material from the Reading@Home section above.

Art

We continue with the theme of our perspective art this week. I have an instructional presentation for you to look at first.

Then have a go at producing the perspective picture of the room looking into another room. You do not need a printer as you will be able to draw this yourself, but if you would like them, a template sheet can be found here:

When you draw your rectangle within the larger rectangle, this needs to be slightly up from the middle. Look carefully to see how when you extend the straight line to the corners of the inner rectangle, these lines will not extend to the corner of the outer rectangle.

And, as it says, when drawing your guide lines, keep these very feint so it is easy to rub them out afterwards.

Remember if you add windows, they need to be parallel to the top and bottom of the wall. I look forward to seeing your rooms.

Family Challenge

Have a go at this challenge. I think we have done one similar to this at school. See if you can work out a strategy to complete it!
