Daily News

Only one day to go now before our Teams meeting. If you have not signed up yet, please see your parent – the sign up information has been sent to their message section on ClassDojo. You will need to sign in to Microsoft with your new email address (put @cubert.cornwall.sch.uk after the username you were sent on Monday) and the updated password. Change the password – make sure you remember this – then you should be able to access Teams!

I have planned a few games and activities for tomorrow morning and hope you will enjoy the opportunity to see some of your friends from Curlews again.

Mr Simmons’ Joke of the Day

Maths

As we approach the end of our work on percentages, there is just one more thing you need to do – find percentages of amounts. Next week we will be looking at how to use bar models to do this with more complicated percentages. But today, there are some common percentages that you should just know. We will learn about these in the video:

Try these questions which will be looking at finding these common percentages.

[Update: I have just realised that you may not know yet, so I’ll tell you that 5% of 20 is 1 and 5% of 600 is 30 – you need that in Part B]

And submit your answers to your Dojo Portfolio.

English

In today’s video we read up to the end of The Highwayman after the dramatic events of yesterday.

So, that’s it. You now know the full story of The Highwayman.

The activity I would like you to do will take today’s and tomorrow’s sessions (so, about 2 hours) to complete. I would like you to produce a storyboard of the whole story. As a rough idea, this could be set out like this (with illustrations in the boxes and a caption below):

Or you may want to do it as more of a story map. However you do it, I would like you to retell the story by choosing the key story features throughout – it will need written description (basic notes) – not just pictures.

[As a rough guide, you are looking at splitting the story into about 12/15 boxes – maybe look at each verse as the build up of the story]

So you don’t have to go back through all the videos, a copy of the full poem can be seen below.

As you will conclude this tomorrow, you will not need to share this work on ClassDojo today.

Reading

I would like you to read for at least 30 minutes each day. You can get more ideas and suggestions of reading material from the Reading@Home section above.

Geography

We continue with our Brazil topic this afternoon. There are a few activities which explore and compare two completely different areas of Brazil and you will explore the geographical concept of push and pull forces.

Please submit the work from this session on ClassDojo.

Family Challenge

Have a go at this challenge. Again, I think we have done one similar to this at school. See if you can work out which of the clues is the best one to start off with.

Stay in Touch

Please stay in touch, letting us know how you are getting on with your learning.
