The Great Curlews Space Off

20th March 2019 0 By Mr Simmons

Yesterday, Curlews class had a fun bake off competition.  Seven groups were involved and they all worked very well together in their teams.  Pupils were given 40 minutes to make the cake and a further hour to decorate and present.

Below you can see the images of the 7 finished cakes along with a description written by each of the groups.

The Galaxy Rainbow Explosion
The Galaxy Rainbow Explosion is a burst of vanilla flavour and a pleasant shock of lemon buttercream.  When you cut into the cake, a mouth-watering surprise will await you along with zesty, gooey lemon curd sandwiched between two light pieces of sponge cake.  Sitting perfectly on top are sweet buttercream swirls along with gold and silver sprinkles.

Galactic Galaxy
A delicious dark chocolate cake with a mixture of sprinkles and edible glamorous glitter.  Smothered over the cake was a mouth-watering chocolate flavoured frosting and sprinkles to die for.  An unfortunate turn of events led to our whipped cream melting on top so it started to move to one side and ended up on the table!

The Comet Relief
A delicious chocolate cake decorated in green and blue icing mixed together to make it look like you are in space looking down at the Earth.
[Leo, Tyler, Zak]
Alien Sprinkle Explosion
A rich, moist dairy-free chocolate cake smothered in black icing representing the night sky.  With lashings of pink sugar and sprinkles it is a sugar packed delight.  It also features miniature fondant aliens riding miniature fondant meteors.

Tubby Custard
This is a wonderful sponge cake with Cadbury’s chocolate in the middle.  Sprinkles have been added to the mixture to add a little crunch.  A homemade buttercream icing goes on top with more Cadbury’s pieces on the side.  One slice will send your taste buds dancing with the flavours.

The Spectacular Spaceship Extravaganza
A super chocolately cake including many mouth-watering ingredients.  One of the judges quoted, “This was one of the best gluten-free cakes I have ever tasted”.  This brilliant gluten-free wonder cake has all you will ever need including marshmallows, moams, melted chocolate and sprinkles.
[Finley, Olly, Heath, Harry &  Bryn]
Gourmet Galaxy
A layer of smooth homemade buttercream and divine salted caramel encased in a rich, light chocolate cake.  Decorated with pearlescent lavender purple and blue icing, a trail of white chocolate stars and fondant planets

A fantastic day.  Well done to everyone for working so well together, and for such great descriptions.  Isla B provided this blog’s title and Bryn wrote the initial paragraph.
