Daily News

Niccolo and Thom are still in the top 3 with their challenge for scientists as part of the Young Imagineers challenge. If you haven’t done so yet, visit https://youngimagineers.equinor.com/entries/ and select the Vote option to cast your vote. It would be great for Cubert School to get a mention in next Tuesday’s live programme.

And more exciting news. Tomorrow morning sees the start of a new battle.

Mr Simmons’ Joke of the Day

Maths

We develop the bar method of calculating percentages today with a wider range of percentages (not just multiples of 5%).

When you submit your work, please use this bar model approach in your calculations – send me your workings, not just the answers.

There are some accompanying questions here:

Have a go at these and submit your answers to your ClassDojo portfolio.

English

Today is Day 2 of the extended writing task. You will be writing the orientation and the ‘Bess’ paragraphs today.

You may like to re-watch yesterday’s video here. Start at around the 8 minute mark for Tuesday’s work.

Remember, you are now using the events from The Highwayman poem to write in a newspaper style – you will not be using the poetic language of the original in this task, but having a more formal style of writing, choosing dramatic language to engage the reader.

As a general guide, the orientation paragraph usually only needs to be one or two sentences. As an example, for the lighthouse newspaper report (which some of you will be familiar with) the orientation was simply:

Disaster struck last night in Little Rock Village when the lighthouse lamp smashed beyond repair, leaving boats blind and in danger.  The villagers stepped up to assist Barry Allen, the local lighthouse keeper in his hour of need.

There will be an opportunity to edit this further towards the end of the week, but please submit your first draft of the orientation and ‘Bess section’ today on Dojo so I can give you some advice on what may need editing.

Reading

I would like you to read for at least 30 minutes each day. You can get more ideas and suggestions of reading material from the Reading@Home section above.

The school newsletter this week has details of how you can access Borrowbox even if you do not have a Cornwall library card. You will simply need to contact the school office and they will send you a membership number. I have used Borrowbox myself for a year or so now and it is a fantastic, free way to borrow books and audiobooks.

Music

Another session today on Yumu. Please continue to work through the ‘Plastic’ unit of work. Have a go at the activity suggested to rap along and change the chorus of the song.

If you have finished this, I have added ‘Dancing In The Street’ as well which you can work through.

I know some of you with your own musical instruments are using this time to develop your musical skills – to help you with this, if you need it, I have also added 2 modules to teach the guitar and keyboard if you have access to either of these instruments at home and you are just starting out.

Have a good musical afternoon!

Family Challenge

Some more Genius Square co-ordinates for you to play with today. If you didn’t make your own Genius Square, you can find the instructions here.
