Daily News

Well done to Lleyton for his mention on the Young Imagineers live lesson yesterday for his request for biodegradable PPE equipment. Dallas Campbell certainly made us wait for the promised mention of Cubert, discussing this at the end of the programme. If you missed it, the programme is now available to watch on demand here.

Thank you to everyone who put in their entries for the photo competition last week. Two entries from Curlews (Martha & Isaak) were selected as the class winners. They went into the whole school competition to go head to head with the other classes and be voted on by the governors. Congratulations to Martha who won with this image to describe: ‘Lockdown 2021: What it looks like to me’

Today is the final day for the Times Table Rockstar Battle.

There was a real surge from Year 4 yesterday. The lead is big, but not insurmountable. There are still a number of members of the class from Curlews who have not taken part this week – the more people that play, the better the chance we could snatch the victory by 7pm!

Mr Simmons’ Joke of the Day

Maths

As we start a new unit of work, this video starts with an old friend – the return of ‘Fluency 5 in 4’ in which we recap of some of the learning you have done so far in Curlews. We then take our first steps into algebra – but don’t be scared – it is not as hard as it sounds!

After watching the video, have a go at these questions and submit your answers to ClassDojo:

Independent Learning Week

I have been hearing some positive reports about the Viking and biodiversity work that you have been carrying out. Use today’s session to continue this work.

Biodiversity

If you are hoping to enter the £3000 prize competition, please read the Rules, Conditions and Judging Criteria information carefully – the information must be submitted in this format and answer these questions to be eligible to win.

I know a couple of people are just enjoying finding out about the biodiversity and making plans for their local area and are not necessarily thinking about entering the competition – this is fine.

Vikings

If you have not had a chance to catch a live broadcast, there will be two more opportunities at 10am and 2pm today here.

You may well be gathering lots of information now about The Vikings. For the presentation (using any creative way: a selection of art work, written reports, a play, PowerPoint presentations, posters, a documentary style video, animation) you may like to focus on one particular aspect of the research you have carried out on the Vikings first.

On a computer you should be able to submit PowerPoints and other documents through Dojo with the Submit File option – I don’t think it is possible to do this on the mobile app. If you are struggling, you can email me at curlews@teachertingle.co.uk (but leave a message in ClassDojo to tell me you have done this as I don’t check that account all the time).

Reading

I would like you to read for at least 30 minutes each day. You can get more ideas and suggestions of reading material from the Reading@Home section above.

Art

Today’s session, extending our perspective work, will look at an artistic method known as foreshortening.

Have a look at the information on these slides:

Then have a go at creating some foreshortening pictures of your own. You may like to experiment with a camera and see what effects you can create or there are some template sheets in the link below you may use as inspiration:
